It’s not often it happens but we were away at the weekend staying in a pretty swanky hotel. There was a good deal on and I thought, why not? We checked in early enough, checked out the room and all the extras and then went for a walk before heading back for a bite to eat. We went up to our room to freshen up and I decided to put the tv on. And that’s when it happened. I broke the tv rack. I don’t know how, but I did. Thankfully, the hotel staff were very understanding of the situation.

My sister came to me for advice at the weekend. She wanted to know if I could suggest any tailgating recipes to her. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when she asked me. I mean, why ask me?! She had me worried for a few minutes when she asked if she could speak with me in private the other day. We were at my brother’s house when she pulled me aside. Next time she’ll know not to frighten me like she did and she’ll let me know straight away that it’s nothing serious. Although, in her eyes, this was ‘serious’.

Thank goodness for reminder applications on phones. I’m absolutely useless at remembering birthdays and other special dates. There are just too many things to remember. Anyway, the battery on my cell went dead and I couldn’t find a charger anywhere. I think I was more than 24 hours without my cell! Thankfully when I did get my battery charged and I turned on my phone, I got the reminder “send mom an anniversary gift”. I’ve never been so pleased to have power in my cell!

My brother and his bride to be are getting hitched later this year and we’re all heading away for the big event. I’m his best man and just this weekend we picked up the wedding bands. They’re really cool tungsten wedding bands. They’re trying to decide whether or not to have them engraved with a special message on the inside – the date might be a good idea, no excuse for forgetting an anniversary then!

Why do pale women insist on turning themselves into oompa loompas by using tanning sprays that are clearly not the correct shade for their complexions? We were at a wedding yesterday and several of the girls attending were a funny shade of orange. And they smelt like burnt bacon. I suppose if they want a tan, this way is safer than sunbathing or using tanning beds.

Don’t you just love spring? I love to see all the new growth in the air and see all the buds starting to bloom. To celebrate springs arrival, I’m treating myself to some new garden planters. There’s a great deal on at the local garden store at the moment. Now I just need to decide how many planters to get. The ones I have out on the patio got a bit damaged last year when some tiles fell off the roof during a storm.

Somehow, my sister managed to persuade me to accompany her to an open show house last weekend. Initially, I looked for a reason not to go and even contemplated phoning her with an excuse at the last minute. We went and I had a better time than she did!!! But now I just look at my house and all the things I want to change. I left the show house with a brochure for General Electric kitchen appliances. I’m like a child in a candy store – I want one of everything!

There’s a great promotion on in the local drug store for bobbi brown make up. I don’t wear it myself but I’m considering it because this offer is brilliant. I’ve been telling anyone who’ll listen! People probably think I work in marketing or that I’m promoting the brand because I work for them!! Maybe I should approach the company and ask for shares or some kind of reward for all my free but ever so productive work!

I’m in two minds about changing my phone to a blackberry storm but I’m hearing mixed reports about it. Our company uses smart phones for all its employees and up until now we’ve all chosen our own phone and used company SIMs. But now the company wants to unify things and has decided that we’ll all use the same type of smart phone. We just have to decide which one.

We are hosting what we anticipate will be a very successful seminar next month and our health and safety officer has brought up the subject of whether or not we need portable barriers to cordon off areas for people’s safety and general well-being. Now, the powers that be have gone all gung-ho and have demanded a health & safety assessment of the different venues along with our health & safety manual. Well I suppose it’s nice for the H&A guy to finally have something to do with his day!
